Professional Development

Sentara College of Health Sciences offers two online programs for RNs who wish to obtain their degree. One is an online RN to BSN program that is tailored for registered nurses who want to obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. The other program is an online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program called the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL). This program is for RNs who already have their BSN.

RN to BSN classes begin every January and August, and there are no summer classes to attend. We do not require chemistry or history as part of the general education requirements. Also, the RN to BSN online program will not require you to come to campus. You do not have traditional clinical hours that involve direct patient care. This is a part-time, online program that you can complete in five semesters.

The Clinical Nurse Leader MSN program is an online program, as well. It does include two clinical courses, which are the final two courses, and will require some direct care from you as you are precepted in a leadership role. However, the majority of the hours are online. The program admits students every semester (January and August); students attend part-time (two courses each semester, except the final Capstone course, which is the only course during that semester). Students complete the program in two years.

You are assigned an advisor as soon as you are accepted, and this advisor will remain with you until you graduate from your program. We also offer wonderful supportive services, online library access, and access to our Center for Student Success staff, who can provide you with additional resources, such as how to improve your organizational and study skills to be successful in these online programs.

Sentara College and Sentara Healthcare offer several options to assist with paying for your tuition. The college’s financial aid advisors can help you obtain other sources of funding. In addition, Sentara College accepts Pell Grants, veterans’ benefits, and scholarships.
