Dear Nursing Team,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our current Sentara nursing professional practice resources. I want you to know how much I’m thinking about every one of you in these unusual times. Not much about 2020 has been easy and we are all learning new ways of providing care to our patients and their families, and how to support each other. One thing I see in the making of our new normal is we are facing these challenges with our collective commitment to safe, high quality, compassionate care. Don’t hesitate to reach out to obtain support for yourself or a team member if needed. Your leaders, our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), our chaplaincy services, or human resources are here to assist.
It is okay, in fact healthy sometimes to say, I need to talk to someone or I need some recommendations for how I might get support or manage how I am feeling. As one of our system’s Clinical Leaders, I am advocating for our nurses and all clinical staff to ensure we are prepared to handle the demands during this unprecedented time. I want to extend my sincerest thanks for the care and perseverance each of you are demonstrating every day. This has been an extraordinary year to be a nurse, and I am proud of how our clinical teams have and are responding to these unprecedented times. Each of you make a difference to our patients and fulfill our Sentara mission of improving health every day. Together we strive to create an environment of health and healing. Your nurse executives have captured this in the video below as they share their heartfelt thoughts of our teams here at Sentara Healthcare.
With sincere thanks and regards,
Genemarie McGee, MS, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, Corporate Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer
